I need a flatbed scanner.

Get the HP G3110. This is the newest and most modern HP scanner and scans at 9600 dpi. Or scan books from the bridge is for this special.
This is a very good scanner for the money. Here is the link. If you want to spend more to get the size of the HP G4010, is legal and super fast.
